The structure of CANUT II research activities consists of research packages. The whole project is divided into five areas with related topics. Each of the thematic packages largely covers the current needs of the nuclear energy sector and nuclear technologies, taking into account the main objectives of the project and to the whole research of nuclear safety, sustainability, public acceptance, economics, and other current requirements respecting Green Deal and Taxonomy. These five areas are called work packages, with each work package having a competent guarantor who guarantees the thematic content and the results achieved with regard to the main goals of the whole project. These are the following working packages: WP1 Nuclear Fuel; WP2 New materials, technologies and systems (nuclear island, turbine island and auxiliary systems); WP3 Instrumentation and control system, sensors; WP4 Operation of new and existing NR (safety, reliability, and durability; operation optimization); WP 5 Decommissioning. All work packages have an activity structure of individual subprojects and tasks that will be solved by specific partners in order to achieve the required results and outputs. By meeting the partial objectives of the individual work packages, the main project will gradually meet the set goals such as increase of the Czech Republic’s competitiveness in the current NPP operation, more effective involvement in the R&D of new technologies and SMRs, advanced approaches to nuclear safety and radiation protection in Czech nuclear facilities, and application of new nuclear technologies and principles.
