WidePIX introduces a new generation of imaging in mining industry 

WidePIX introduces a new generation of imaging technology, specifically designed for the mining industry, to enable more efficient and sustainable mineral sorting.

Traditionalmineral sorting processes suffer from significant inefficiencies, including the loss of valuable material in waste streams and the excessive use of water, chemicals,and energy. This results in higher operational costs and increased environmental impact. The WidePIX solution addresses these challenges by integrating advancedphoton-counting detectors into sorting lines, which enables precise analysis of rock samples and significantly improves separation efficiency. 

At the core of this solution is our photon-counting imaging technology, developed as part of the European X-Mine project. This initiative supports a more independent, sustainable, and resource-efficient mining industry in Europe through several key objectives: 

  • Introducing advanced imaging methods to modern mining operations. 
  • Delivering next-generation detectors that enable entirely new capabilities in material analysis.

Testing of this technology has demonstrated substantial improvements in ore quality, while offering a completely dry operation that eliminates the need for water and chemicals. Key performance results include: 

  • Copper content increased from 0.4 % to 1.25%. 
  • Zinc content rose from 0.83 % to 2.24%. 
  • Reduction of environmental impact and operational complexity through water-free processing. 

Financial benefits include: 

  • Up to 50% lower initial investment costs than traditional sorting technologies. 
  • Up to 20 times lower operating expenses. 

The WidePIX detector is the fastest industrial single-photon-counting camera currently on the market.
