Advanced High-Speed Spectral Imaging Camera ready for integration

AdvaPIX MAGIC is the world’s first photon-counting detector that operates in list mode. This means every radiation hit is recorded into a continuous data stream. The device measures each detected quanta’s position, energy, and time-of-arrival.

The Flex solution removes the solid housing to adapt the detector for integration into large industrial systems. The MiniPIX MAGIC Flex detector is connected via USB interface. It is controlled in PIXet Pro software, which is provided for free. It runs on all major operating systems (MS Windows, Mac OS and LINUX).

The detector has an array of 256×256 spectrometers (pixels) with Si or CdTe sensors. Each pixel records a spectrum of incoming events. The measured time stamp also allows checking for coinciding events or charge sharing between pixels. API integration is possible for other programmes.

This approach opens new horizons for ionizing radiation detection. The camera module contains CERN’s Timepix3 device with ultra-fast sparse data readout able to acquire up to 38 million pixel hits per second. The module uses a USB 3.0 communication channel, which assures a fast read-out of the system. The PIXet Pro software is provided with the device – it is used to operate the detector and collect and analyse data. Plugins for advanced functions are available.

The AdvaPIX MAGIC Flex can be used in a variety of applications, such as:

Recording individual hits together with advanced data processing allows imaging at super spatial resolution. It can reach units of microns (X-rays) or even sub-micrometric levels (ions).

Compared to the older Timepix chip, the Timepix3 detector offers imaging with 6x better time resolution, 2x better energy resolution, 2x lower minimum energy threshold, zero dead time, and 10x faster data transfer.

Our cameras are based on cutting-edge single X-ray photon counting sensors, and each detected photon is processed individually. This approach also allows measuring the wavelength of photons. It brings unprecedented image quality and new possibilities, such as material-sensitive X-ray imaging. Moreover, our detectors enable fast and compact X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Crystallography solutions. XRD sample analysis is performed up to an order of magnitude faster than conventional systems. Spectral sensitivity provides a unique ability to inspect the sample surface and its interior (Energy dispersive XRD).
